A fascinating insight into the world of fashion with an evening spent at Aadnevik’s latest show, part of London Fashion Week.
I was there at the kind invitation of Hila and Kristian Aadnevik. Theirs is a London based brand established a decade ago.
Titled ‘Byzantium’, this was the Autumn/Winter 2023 collection, shown at The Royal Horseguards Hotel (great location in the heart of London).

To get the opportunity to go behind the scenes is always a real joy. There’s great energy in these types of environments which I love.
Having spent most of my time front of house at last year’s Fashion Week (see ‘London Fashion Week‘) it was good to get fully involved backstage this year.
The teamwork it takes to complete the final look (designers, models, make up artists, hair stylists, etc) is impressive to witness.

Hila and Kristian are a designer duo – Kristian having studied at the Royal College of Art (Masters in Fashion Womenswear) and Hila self-taught.
For my type of photography, concentrating on the human form, their designs are just great – showing the female figure beautifully.
The atmosphere was vibrant and, what was a nice surprise too, was a jolly vibe amongst the photographers (not always the case).

Kit-wise – I used my 5div as I was going to need a camera that could deal with low levels of indoor light. This camera can produce decent colours at high ISOs without being overly grainy too.
The lens I chose was a standard zoom (24-70 f2.8L). I was going to be working in very crowded, busy environments up close and needed the flexibility to change focal length swiftly.
One of a photographer’s nightmares was present in abundance – glitter! There was no way I was changing my lens once it was on (a late night in-depth clean of all kit was required).

I have put in a couple of photographs below from the show itself. A packed event, not even standing room free once everyone had arrived.
It’s quite a challenge to capture everything you would like to backstage and then still have time to find a good position front of house.
Movement is pretty restricted once the audience arrives and there really was no possibility of moving around anyway on this occasion. However these worked out pretty well…
